Wow - I'm reaching another milestone in life - I am going to be 40 on Friday! I'm completely embracing this time in life. My health is great (although I should cut down on the smokes), Hal and I celebrated our 3 year anniversary last Sunday, Chase has been a great addition to our lives, I'm gainfully employed, and I have a really nice, longtime group of friends celebrating with me as I become a quadragenarian and now entering what is known as middle adulthood (Gasp!) Does that mean I have to put away my xbox? No way! Start saving seriously for my retirement? You bet! Tonite, Jennconspiracy, Samael7 and Z-Man, Hal and I are going to Millenium right after work to start the celebratin'. It will be my first time to their annual chile dish and beer pairing (I'll be sticking to the wine) so I'm looking forward! Friday night, we'll be celebrating at Pasha (Check out the virtual tour.)
Next month Hal and I will be vacationing in Puerto Vallarta and will be boarding Chase at the new swanky Wag Hotel here in the city. The rates are really affordable and I'm sure he's going to get plenty of playtime with the other guests.

Chasesters knows I put some treats for him out of reach - he's a virtual hound!!

Check out my latest plant hobby. Samael7 picqued my interest in carnivourous plants a few years ago and this Sarracenia was the perfect choice to start with. Mind you, I did try to grow carnivourous plants before but always with bad results. They have to be in a boggy environment devoid of any nutrients, minerals and the like or you quickly end up with burnt plants. The water can only be distilled water (or rain water, but we're enjoying our indian summer and no rain is in the forecast.) So I submerged this with sphagnum moss (also a bog plant) and sand and it is doing really well. A couple weekends ago, Chase was out on the deck and he caught a housefly. It was a little stunned so I picked it up and put him on the lip of one of the plant's vases, and sure enough it must have been tasty as the fly crawled right on in! Yum! This has given me enough encouragement to try my hand in nurturing this little guy...

This is my second attempt at growing a Sundew. Hopefully this guy does better than the last one. Bye for now!
